Turmeric And Your Beauty Routine

When you take turmeric in foods or lovely teas like ours, you are giving your beauty routine an incredible boost. That said, turmeric also has wonderful benefits when used topically! Turmeric is high in antioxidants that slow down cell damage and is traditionally used in India as an antiseptic. The anti-inflammatory properties of Turmeric help soothe many different skin problems, and its antiseptic ability helps rid the skin of impurities.

Turmeric is known for its cell regeneration properties, which is why many skincare products use extracts of Turmeric as a potent ingredient in their lotions and creams. Here are some reasons why Turmeric is just as important for your skin’s health as it is for your body.

Turmeric Fights the Signs of Ageing

Being an excellent exfoliating agent, Turmeric can help eliminate signs of ageing. Turmeric powder has been used for centuries as part of a beauty regimen. Even today in India, brides and grooms undergo a ceremony where they are scrubbed with Turmeric to make their skin glow.

You can make a paste by mixing besan (gram flour) and turmeric powder in equal proportions with water. This paste can also be prepared using raw milk or yoghurt. Apply it evenly on your face and body and allow it to dry. Scrub your face gently in a circular motion. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Turmeric Treatments for Pigmentation and Uneven Skin Tone

Discolouration and pigmentation make the skin look botched and uneven. Regular application of Turmeric evens the skin tone and prevents further discolouration. To remove pigmentation and dark spots, apply a mixture of Turmeric powder and lemon juice to the affected area for 20-30 minutes and wash off with plain water. This should be done regularly for beneficial results.

Turmeric Helps Combat Acne

Turmeric is effective in the treatment of acne due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, which fight pimples and breakouts, providing a youthful glow to your skin. Turmeric face masks help clear acne scars, reduce inflammation, and reduce oil secretion by the sebaceous glands.

You can prepare a face pack by mixing Turmeric powder and sandalwood powder, adding lemon juice to the mixture. Apply it to your face for 10 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water. For acne scars, apply a mixture of Turmeric and plain water on the marks for 15 minutes.

Treat Skin Conditions with Turmeric

Being a natural antiseptic, Turmeric combined with milk is effective in treating skin conditions like poison ivy, eczema, and psoriasis. Eczema is an itchy, painful disease characterised by red scaly patches on the skin. Apply a topical mixture of Turmeric with milk to soothe the skin and reduce redness and inflammation.

Turmeric Soap

If you can get your hands on some Turmeric soap or, better yet, make your own, then you are certainly on the right track. It’s widely used as a skin exfoliant to improve your skin’s complexion, texture, and health. In many Asian countries, it is used by women for skin care, particularly to discourage facial and body hair. It is also used to help with inflammatory skin conditions, such as acne, dry skin, psoriasis, and eczema.

Turmeric Cold Process Soap Recipe Directions

  • Slowly add lye to distilled water and gently stir until lye has completely dissolved and cooled. Set aside.

  • In another container, add peanut oil and turmeric powder mix and set aside.

  • In a microwave-safe container, melt shortening and olive oil until dissolved in the microwave for about 3 minutes. Do this in 40-second intervals. Oils should be 120-130 degrees.

  • Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 120-130 degrees (this temperature is perfect for the oils as well), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend the mixture to a thin trace.

  • Add essential oil and turmeric powder mixture and stick blend to medium trace.

  • Ensure ingredients are completely combined. The trace may get thicker like pudding, and that’s fine.

  • Pour soap into a soap mould and let sit for 1-3 days or until soap has become hard.
