Boost Your Immune System with Spices You Can Drink in Tea

Mix of spices

Here are three spices that my mother and I travelled the world to find the best of, and that we use in our tea blends.

#1: Star Anise Is an Immune System Superstar

Star Anise has a magical inbuilt immune system booster in the form of shikimic acid and quercetin (a plant antioxidant). These two work in tandem to enhance immune system function, ward off colds and flu, and help protect the body against viral diseases.

We Source Our Star Anise in Vietnam.

Star Anise is a flavoursome blending spice with a deliciously satisfying aroma. The dried, star-shaped fruits of Illicium verum (Star Anise) are one of the main ingredients of Chinese five-spice powder. It’s also one of the ingredients that gives the Italian liqueur, Sambuca, its distinctive aniseed flavour.

Star Anise has a unique taste, combining the richness of liquorice with the freshness of fennel. The organic variety that we’ve chosen for our delicious Taka Turmeric recipes is 100% free from pesticides and harmful additives.

#2: Cloves Can Boost That Immune System Too!

Cloves also bring the wonderful healing properties of antioxidants. Using Cloves to power up the immune system by fighting off oxidative damage and free radicals is a great idea. Added to that, Cloves can help reduce inflammation and help to get rid of mucus should you have any.

Our Cloves Come from India

Delicately balanced organic Clove is a signature ingredient in our Taka Turmeric Golden Chai and other specialist teas.

Clove is one of the essential spices that seems to have been used since the dawn of civilisation. These familiar brown spikes are actually the dried flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum. Clove trees are thought to have originated on the Maluku Islands of Indonesia.

With each individual Clove packing a powerful punch of flavour, Clove is a spice that demands sensitive blending. With the balance just right, Clove delivers an exhilarating zing of refreshment to a mix of complex spices.

#3: Rosehip Is an Immune System Booster of Note!

Rosehip is renowned for its rich antioxidant properties, immune system boosting, and ability to help fight off infections. For viral infections and problems in the respiratory and sinus areas, Rosehips bring much-needed vitamins C, E, and K. Colds and flu, beware!

Our Rosehips Come from Croatia

Scarlet Rosehips are a common sight in European hedgerows at the end of summer. Hips are the seed pods of wild roses. After the roses bloom, the petals fall away, leaving the hips to ripen in the waning sun.

In the recent past, Rosehips were collected for home jam-making, herbal teas, and winemaking. Rosehips are a great source of vitamin C and have a natural fruity sweetness.

We use organically sourced Rosehips to add luscious juiciness to our Ginger & Lemon tea.

And to make it a fab four, once again I include our beloved Turmeric…

Turmeric Is an Immune System Power-Booster

Turmeric is a natural way to help bolster the immune system. Curcumin is the orange-yellow component of Turmeric that is known for its abundance of anti-inflammatory effects. Curcumin is a potent immunomodulatory agent and has been known to be highly effective both as a treatment and to stave off dreaded lurgies before they can land!

Turmeric is a cornerstone ingredient in our full range of Taka Turmeric teas and drinks. For dedicated Turmeric fans, we even produce our own organic Taka Turmeric capsules with Black Pepper extract!
