Golden Paste with Turmeric and Black Pepper

Makes one jar (about 20 teaspoons). Ready in 15 minutes. Keeps for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

A thick, glossy turmeric paste made with water, oil and black pepper. Make one jar and keep it in the fridge, ready to stir into lattes, smoothies, dressings and more all week.

Ingredients

  • 60g (about ½ cup) Taka Organic Turmeric Powder

  • 250ml water, plus a splash more if needed

  • 70ml coconut, olive or flaxseed oil

  • 2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

  • Optional: ½ tsp ground cinnamon or ground ginger

Method

  1. Put the turmeric and water in a small pan over a gentle heat and stir until smooth.

  2. Keep stirring for 7 to 10 minutes until the mixture is thick and glossy. Add a splash more water if it gets too stiff.

  3. Take the pan off the heat and whisk in the oil, black pepper and any spices until fully combined.

  4. Leave to cool, then spoon into a clean glass jar. Keep it sealed in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Ways to use it

  • Turmeric latte: whisk 1 to 2 tsp into warm milk. See our turmeric latte recipe.

  • Smoothies: blend 1 tsp with banana, mango and oat milk.

  • Salad dressing: shake 1 tsp with lemon juice, olive oil, honey and a pinch of salt.

  • Eggs and grains: stir ½ tsp into scrambled eggs, rice or porridge.

  • Soups and curries: add a spoonful at the end for extra colour.

Tips

  • Use a clean, dry spoon each time so the paste keeps well.

  • Turmeric stains, so use a wooden or metal spoon rather than a light plastic one.

Shop the powder

This recipe uses our Organic Turmeric Powder: single origin from Karnataka, Soil Association certified and steam sterilised. One 200g pouch makes about three jars of golden paste.
